Ultimate Pokémon Heartgold Pokedex Guide
In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Johto Pokédex features Pokémon from the Johto region, along with some additional evolutions introduced in later generations. The native Johto Pokédex includes 256 Pokémon, starting with #001 Chikorita and ending with #256 Celebi. After completing certain milestones in the game, players unlock the National Pokédex, which includes all Pokémon from Generations 1 through 4.
Key Features of the HeartGold/SoulSilver Pokédex:
- Starter Pokémon: The game begins with three starter options:
- Chikorita (Grass), Cyndaquil (Fire), and Totodile (Water).
- Additional Evolutions: Includes new evolutions such as Yanmega, Ambipom, Lickilicky, Tangrowth, and Mamoswine. However, some evolutions like Electivire and baby forms like Wynaut are excluded from the Johto Dex but appear in the National Dex.
- Semi-Exclusive Pokémon: Some Pokémon are version-exclusive or semi-exclusive:
- For example, Caterpie is more common in HeartGold, while Ekans is more common in SoulSilver.
- National Dex Upgrade: After defeating the Elite Four and meeting Professor Oak in Pallet Town, players gain access to the National Pokédex. This allows them to encounter and capture Pokémon from all regions up to Generation 4.
Unique Mechanics:
- Pokémon Following Feature: The first Pokémon in your party can follow you around in the overworld, a feature inspired by Pokémon Yellow.
- Safari Zone Customization: Players can customize Safari Zone areas to attract specific wild Pokémon after unlocking the National Dex.
The Johto Pokédex provides a nostalgic yet expanded experience for fans of the original Gold and Silver, while introducing new gameplay elements.
